Miami Fishing Report – Methods
The Sharks have been from the deep side of the reef all the way out to over 600 foot of water. Slow trolling the live baits on the surface and on a down rigger has been effective. We are fishing with 30lb line with a hook sized to fit the bait. We use a 10 foot #8 wire leader. The leader is connected to the line by a short bimini twist.
The Sharks strike the baits violently. It is important to hive them a lengthy drop back. The shark needs to be able to eat the bait & turn its head away from the angler. To get a good hook set as their mouths are big. It is easy to pull a bait out of their grip if you do not let them have the time to eat.
